Notes to
the Agenda Items
1) Current Archiving Events, received from Christine Handley...
Visit
to Stocksbridge Local History Society’s Archive: We are
arranging a visit on 25th February starting at
10.30am at the old
town hall in Stocksbridge. The group will be providing
refreshments and a light
lunch so pre-booking by 18th Feb. is essential. The
visit is free
and will be an opportunity to see the material they have and
the archive room
that they have created at the old town hall. Places are
limited.
Recording
Memories & Reminiscences: a 1-day
training session on 27th February at St John’s
Centre, Chapeltown.
This is a good opportunity to attend the Oral History
Society’s introductory
training course run by Michelle Winslow one of their regional
trainers. It will
take people through the whole process of recording memories.
No prior
experience necessary but it would also suit those who would
like a refresher
course. It is free to attend with lunch etc. provided. Places
are limited and
need to be booked in advance. Please contact Christine to book
a place.
Festival
of Britain 65 years on: request for memories &
mementos. In
1951, the summer long Festival had an impact on the local area
as
well as being a focal point for the whole of the UK. We’ve
already discovered
some material relating to the local festival which took place
in parallel with
the national one. And, as part of the Archiving Project, I’d
like to collect
more material to create a display and hold an event to
celebrate 65 years on. If you took part
in the original festival locally or went
on a trip to London and have any photos or other material, I’d
be interested to
hear from you.
For
more details of these and other events and
training sessions, and to book a place, please contact,
Christine, at the
Council Offices, Mortomley Lane, High Green, Sheffield S35 3HS;
telephone: 0114
2845095; email: Christine.handley@ecclesfield-pc.gov.uk |
Oral history training dates are 7th Feb; 5th March and 19th March.
There are further informal events in Ecclesfield Library on for 24th
Feb, and 23rd March, but we hope to get a screen rigged up so that we
can view some of the archive material.
Communications Received
- We received an inquiry from a lady who lived in Rock House from
1944, asking for any information about that and mentioning "Yew Lane",
and "Grey Hill".
Information watch
The items in this
section will not be gone through one by one, but can be discussed in any
other business if any member wishes to bring them up.
- Somehow,
an advertisement for "History
Of The Parish Of Ecclesfield, In The County Of York (1862)"
appeared in the Village Website's News Window. Its nearly £30
though!
- We may want to comment on the government's proposed changes
to the planning system. E.g. I spotted ...
- Introducing
a statutory register of
brownfield land suitable for housing
development;
- Creating
a small sites register to support custom build homes;
- Speeding
up and simplifying neighbourhood planning and giving more powers
to neighbourhood forums.
- There
is also a consultation on Rural
Planning, including on the rights to convert agricultural to
residential buildings.
- And
one asking for evidence (rather than views) on Flood
Resistance.
- The
Police have updated their Sheffield
North East Facebook Page, with details of local crimes and
photos of stolen goods. [Some people have commented as well, but
the Comment button was greyed out for me. If anybody knows how to
enable it, let me know. I tried and failed - Jim].
- Blackburn
Brook is being cleared through Chapeltown. If anybody wants to help
(or perhaps suggest they continue a bit further downstream). See poster
for dates and contact details.
- The
Star reported a coroner's call to improve the safety of
Ecclesfield Road through Wooley Wood, after a death when the road
flooded due to heavy rain.
- There
is a drop-in session on Woodlands
and Trees on 26th February, in the Town Hall. [Interesting
mention of "Green Flag" status on one of the publicity Blogs].
- Grenoside
reading room have lot of events, including "Iron and Steel Go
To War. 1500BC to 1918", at 7.30 pm on 10th March.
Issues
from previous minutes
If any members can help, or want to bring any of the
following up for any other reason, they can do so in any other business.
* Our archive is not back
yet. The necessary updates are proving harder to get going than I
expected, but are still being worked on.
* Our Joint Survey is
priority, but we still need to decide on the question(s) we want to ask.
* Designs for the pop-up
banners are in progress, and JP is working on the text discussed at the
last meeting, and on indications from a meeting with ID on the graphics.
*
We have a fireproof trunk for storing archive material. Members
might prefer a more generally accessible location if one can be found
[As well as perhaps other things such as our Gazebo].
*
We still have plans to survey major trees within the
Conservation Area (we have just lost two major trees from the land
between St Mary’s Lane and Ecclesfield Park).
*
We are still encouraging Sheffield City Council to proceed with
their project to get their alcohol licensing system on-line so that
everybody can see the opening times etc. which apply to each of the
premises in the area. Meanwhile, we are continuing to check their manual
list of licence applications.
New
planning applications
The following planning applications were found by
searching for Ward = “East Ecclesfield”, Parish = Ecclesfield Parish
Council”, postcodes S35 9?? and S35 1TE, validated from 21 Jan 2016 to 22
Feb 2016.
[The contents of brackets and italics are my
interpretation - usually made after only briefly scanning the
documents. Older comments on long standing applications have been
deleted, but should still be available on our web site]
-
Single-storey rear extension to dwellinghouse

| Received: Wed 17 Feb 2016 |
Validated: Wed 17 Feb 2016 | Status:

This is the detached new house, opposite Well Lane. I guess the
extension protrudes into its back garden.

-
Demolition of existing stables and erection of a dwellinghouse
Cutilage Of 348 The Wheel Sheffield S35 9ZB
Ref. No: 16/00595/FUL | Received: Mon
15 Feb 2016 | Validated: Mon 22 Feb
2016 | Status: Pending Consideration
This seems to be to the left of the penultimate house, before
Cinder Hill lane. One of its three gables is shown almost touching
the Green Belt Line, as does the existing stables. I had
difficulty matching up Google Maps/Satellite, with the plans,
partly because the last house on The Wheel before Cinder Hill does
not seem to be shown on the maps I saw submitted. It might be
worth informing SCC, that we have not been able to understand the
maps submitted, and therefore could not check the distance between
the proposed new house, and the last house before Cinder Hill
Lane.
-

"Existing and proposed plans and elevations" document did not
load, so I cannot comment further.

[2016-02-22 still pending] Number
of comments has grown from 885 to 906. All those that I saw were
objections. The most recent said... "My
family have lived in the S35/S36 area all our lives. One of the great
things about it is the woodlands and surrounding countryside. Myself, my
husband and 4 year old use all the woods around the area and the time
spend there is precious. As a society we need more peace, quality time,
and nature not more food, traffic, shopping etc. I appreciate it would
bring jobs but at what cost".

Alcohol Licensing
- Ladbrooks on Ecclesfield High Street have applied for a "Change of
Layout". We can make representations, but there are no details of the
changes, so if anyone wanted us to do this, we would have to inquire
further.
