Communications, e.g. on

The items in this section will not be gone through one by one, but can be discussed in any other business if any member wishes to bring them up.

·       Sheffield City Council emailed us to say that they are consulting on their proposing to reduce the number of priority 2 gritted roads. The Ecclesfield Parish council are preparing (or may by now have already prepared) their comments. If members are also concerned, then they may want to make their views known, for instance by voicing their views in Any Other Business, by lobbying their Councillors, and/or by using the link above before the consultation expires on 25th July.

·       UKEconet.org (Hallam University and South Yorkshire Biodiversity Research Group), have three workshops on habitats and species associated with Sphagnum moss. (Some volunteer places are available at £20 a day. Also, perhaps of interest to our archiving project, UKEconet have an oral history and transcription service).

Information watch

The items in this section will not be gone through one by one, but can be discussed in any other business if any member wishes to bring them up.

New planning applications

In East Ecclesfield Ward, postcodes S35 9?? and S35 1TE, validated from 2014-05-26 to 2014-07-20

[Italics are my interpretation - usually made after only briefly scanning the documents.]

Erection of No. 2 detached dwellinghouses with associated garages (Re-submission of application number 13/04197/OUT)

Land To The Rear Of 135 Church Street Ecclesfield Sheffield S35 9WF

Ref. No: 14/02239/OUT | Received: Thu 19 Jun 2014 | Validated: Thu 19 Jun 2014 | Status: Pending Consideration

[This is very similar to the previous application which the Conservation Group considered at the start of the year. There is a new “location plan” which seems to show access is now via the car park in front of the old working men’s club. As we know, the licensee of the fishing club was concerned about the previous application (now withdrawn), but the proposal to take away some of the car park used as access to the fishing pond appears to have raised this concerns. Since it is generally said that it is not necessary to own the land in order to apply for planning permission for it, I am not sure what difference the arguments on property related rights make to whether or not planning consent is granted. The group is of course, able to make any comments it wishes, as are individual members, however it may be that important decisions will be made by the old Working Mens Club’s receivers, BDO of Leeds or whoever buys the land off them.]

[This is the house on the Ecclesfield Side of the Cattery. It has a very long garden, which stretches behind Whitley Croft cul-de-sac. It looks as if the intension is to share a drive, which is not normal for that area and might indicate over development –JP]

[There are now 461 items on the “public comments” section, all as far as I could see against the proposal.

Also the meeting on 13 May 2014 was attended by approximately 50 people, following which the Parish Council raised a number of objections to the proposal. Apparently, one person gave support to the proposal, but was still worried about the quality of the jobs that would be created

Councillor Steven Wilson, and Angela Smith MP registered objections, saying among many other things that some of the proposed mitigations would be nullified by HS2

There is other information on our web site, including a link to an e-petition]
