Notes to the Agenda Items

1. We received an email detailing the appointment which the Parish Council have now made for the Project Co-ordinator, prior to the project starting on 1st October 2014.

3. We had two winners for the Gala quiz prepared for us by Sylvia Harrison. Each winner was therefore given one of the two prizes donated to us, plus, since the two winners got every question right, a Certificate of Excellence.

5. We attended the Volunteer Fair at Newton Hall …

7. Our East Ecclesfield City Councillors will be answering prepared questions at Chapeltown Library at 7 pm. on Thursday 25th September. One question has already been put about the purpose of the Conservation area, in view of the very prominent signs that have sprung up in it parts of it. However, there may still be time for members to support that question, or indeed add their own questions.

Information watch

The items in this section will not be gone through one by one, but can be discussed in any other business if any member wishes to bring them up.

·        There is an illustrated talk about the Great Sheffield Flood of 1864, by Malcolm Nunn, in the Grenoside Reading Room at 7:30 pm on 9th October.

·        Sheffield City Council have finished their consultation on their proposal to reduce the number of priority 2 gritted roads. Some of the roads in Ecclesfield seem to have been re-instated. A thank you to everybody who gave the Council their views I think.

·        If anybody knows what the Boundary Commission are doing about our ward boundaries, following their consultation, please let me know? Doncaster is expecting their results, and there do seem to be some discussions at http://reformgroups.net/sheffield/archives/843 .

·        The replacement of the Police Station on Green Lane seems to be going ahead with plans having been submitted to replace three such stations with one large one on Shepcote Lane.

·
If anybody knows how we can restore our planter to its former glory, let us know. This is what it should look like …

But the bedding plants, and the grass around the base are dead .

New planning applications

HS2: The threats to Smithy Wood reached the Yorkshire Post. See http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/business/business-news/campaigners-say-ancient-woodland-is-threatened-by-m1-service-station-plans-1-6803379 . Also Sheffield City Council are still trying to have it re-route HS2 to the centre of Sheffield, rather than Meadowhall.

[The contents of brackets and italics are my interpretation - usually made after only briefly scanning the documents.]

[2014-05-25 There are now 461 items on the “public comments” section, all as far as I could see against the proposal.

Also the meeting on 13 May 2014 was attended by approximately 50 people, following which the Parish Council raised a number of objections to the proposal. Apparently, one person gave support to the proposal, but was still worried about the quality of the jobs that would be created

Councillor Steven Wilson, and Angela Smith MP registered objections, saying among many other things that some of the proposed mitigations would be nullified by HS2

[2014-07-22 his is very similar to the previous application which the Conservation Group considered at the start of the year. There is a new “location plan” which seems to show access is now via the car park in front of the old working men’s club. As we know, the licensee of the fishing club was concerned about the previous application (now withdrawn), but the proposal to take away some of the car park used as access to the fishing pond appears to have raised this concerns. Since it is generally said that it is not necessary to own the land in order to apply for planning permission for it, I am not sure what difference the arguments on property related rights make to whether or not planning consent is granted. The group is of course, able to make any comments it wishes, as are individual members, however it may be that important decisions will be made by the old Working Mens Club’s receivers, BDO of Leeds or whoever buys the land off them.]
