Information watch
- See http://ecclesfieldgroups.com
which now has an automatically-updated list of Ecclesfield news (in the
box on the right). Among others, this currently includes an item about
reclamation of the Thorpe Hesley tip.
If you click on the blue
headline, you can see the full article, saying that it might take 5
years to remove the waste and a further five years to restore it; and
that there is a meeting in the Hesley Wood Scout Centre on July 19th.
- It was nice to see Look Local mentioning our party for the
arrival of the Olympic Torch
in Ecclesfield. Some photographs of the
event have also appeared on "Red Hot White"'s Facebook page, which can
be accessed by clicking on the blue link in the redhotwhite Tweet in
the "#Ecclesfield Tweets" box on the left of http://ecclesfieldgroups.com.

Consideration
[The site plan
shows this to be to the North of Cowley Hill, running between
Chapeltown and the M1 to stop just before Hesley wood. RecyCoal say that a coal washing
plant will be built, 35 local jobs created, and 395,000 tonnes of coal
extracted over 3 years. Access
to the site is directly on to Cowley Hill and thence to M1 J35. Soil
will then be imported and planted with grass and 41,000 trees. "A"
frame barriers will then be installed, giving access to hard surfaced
paths. Ancient woodland on the edge of the site will be preserved. The
site is within the Green Belt and two residents have objected, on
nature conservation, amenity and environmental grounds. Also, Natural
England are recommending that an "Environmental Statement" be prepared,
but I don't know whether this has been done. Also note the news items
in "Information watch" above .]
