Things we are doing

[z] The next meeting of the Conservation Group will be on Monday 2012-03-19 at 19:30 in the Stocks, and this will be our AGM. Since PB announced his intention to resign as treasurer, volunteers for this (and any other positions) would be most welcome.

[2] [Industrial Heritage Board unveiling at Ladycroft Meadow at 11 am on 2012-03-24 (Saturday)]

PB reported that "John Fairest Funeral Directors" are providing sandwiches, and St. Mary's Church are providing the venue for the refreshments following the official unveiling of the Ecclesfield Heritage Board. The meeting agreed without objection, that  the Conservation Group would contribute £100 to Church funds in recognition of the use of Church facilities.

PB told us about the list he was compiling of people who should be given specific invitations to the unveiling. These included Angela Smith MP, the Lord Mayor, the Chair and members of the Parish Council, the Vicar of St. Mary's Church, and the Chairs of the "Revitalising Ecclesfield Park and Pavilion Group", "Ecclesfield in Bloom", and "Ecclesfield Scrubbers". ID agreed to invite the Chair of the Northern Assembly on our behalf. We hope that all the chairs, as well as group members, and other people in Ecclesfield will be able to attend. PB said that although he had already sent some of the invitations out, he understood if there was insufficient notice for some of the invitees to attend. [if anybody thinks they should have an invitation and has not received one, please contact .]. PB also told us that he hoped that the local schools would participate, and that he would try and get local media publicity.

It was suggested that it might be wise to insure the new board, but thought that such insurance would be impossible to obtain. However, PB said that he was going to inform the landlord [Sheffield Homes] of our erection of the board.

PB added that he had ordered the 12 sided leaflets in support of the board at a cost of £300.

[3] Possible further funding applications were discussed. This included funding for the placement of boundary markers such as "Welcome to Ecclesfield" on the roads into to Ecclesfield, and a possible second heritage board.

[y] PB told us that our insurance policy needed renewing at a cost of £104, and there were no objections to this.

Things we have done

[c] The description of the Heritage Board Leaflet having been corrected as indicated by PB, the minutes of the previous meeting dated 2012-01-26, were accepted.

[1] It was  unanimously agreed that this and future meeting minutes will continue to be put on the Internet, but only after their approval at a following meeting. [http://conservation.ecclesfieldgroups.com/procedures has been updated accordingly - JP]

[x] The planning application for three "Sheffield in Bloom" signs for the Smithy Wood traffic island were mentioned without objection, although their cost, at a time when other things were being cut was queried .

[x] [Sheffield City Council, Development Services emailed to say that they had approved the Bradbury Planning application subject to conditions. The Report of the Area Board  is available at 11/03358/FUL¬. We note the conditions made, including the requirement for a landscaping belt along the southern edge of the site, and that use of the new building is restricted to 08:30 - 18:00 Mon-Fri, and 09:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, with no working on Sundays or Bank Holidays. We also note the report's comment that approval of permission for the site is "Despite its clear incompatibility with its location" - JP].

[y] We received verbal reports, and one written report from members attending the meeting regarding traffic on the Wheel/Wheel Lane on 2012-02-07 at Whitely Cricket Club. Attendees reported that there was a feeling that recent traffic calming measures had failed. "Available resources" were quoted as being a problem but further speed measurements, proposals and a further meeting promised.

[y] [I have emailed the owner of the Old Methodist Chapel as suggested at the meeting. Mr Salamat thanked us for our kind words and said that they  hoped for the best for the community. I can see that work on the building is continuing, but members may wish to keep a look out, and phone the police if they see anything amiss - JP ].

[y] [Since the meeting, the Bloom Group has organised a clear-up of the overgrown shrubs in the border opposite to the Old White Bear - now the Ecclesfield Business Centre, on the morning of Saturday 10th March. Some Conservation members are helping, and if others wish to join them I am sure the assistance would be gratefully received.]
