Ongoing matters, or "things still to be done"
[z] The next
meeting
of the
Conservation Group will be on Monday 2012-05-21 at 19:30 in
the
Stocks.
[2] In talking about future
projects, JE referred to our Aims and Objectives, and suggested that we continue our concerns about long-term spatial
considerations, and the protection of things we wished to see conserved.
The desirability of increasing membership was mentioned, and MM reminded
us that the Parks group send a newsletter out in summer. It was
suggested that pushing our own leaflet though everybody's letterboxes,
is a big job, and CT agreed that one piece of paper is better
than two. MM therefore agreed to ask Angela Marsden about the possibility of contributing to the Parks Newsletter
instead.
JE mentioned the Queen's Jubilee
celebrations, and it was agreed to treat them as a "Fun Day" or "Picnic
in the Park", rather than having a formal Conservation Group stand.
Further projects were mentioned. These
included responding to Tegwen's suggestion of a second heritage board.
Several places were suggested for this including the other side of the
park, on the High Street near the library, or at what used to be called
Wallet's End. It was suggested that the board could be part of an
Industrial or Heritage Walk. The possibility of finding funding for
boundary markers was also mentioned.
[3] JE told us that he hoped to attend the meeting at the Ecclesfield Parish Council rooms for local voluntary groups, and how this was valuable for exchanging ideas.
[4] JE reminded us that the post of treasurer remained Vacant. Some interest was expressed in the post, so the matter was held over until the next meeting.
Completed matters or "things we have now done"
[c] ID was added to the list of attendees [My apologies to ID - JP], and the minutes of
the previous meeting were then accepted as a true and fair reflection of the meeting. [The corrected minutes can now be found at http://conservation.ecclesfieldgroups.com/minutes/2012-03-19.minutes.html.
These minutes
will not be published until approved at the next meeting, but it might
still be useful if any omissions, corrections, or comments were sent to
beforehand - JP]
[1] JE reported on our Industrial Heritage Board unveiling at
Ladycroft Meadow on 2012-03-24. One of the many photographs of the
event taken by ID was passed round, and another showing how well
attended the event had been. [Other of Ian's photographs are available on http://conservation.ecclesfieldgroups.com/heritage. If the slide show is jerky, just click on an image to freeze it, then click your browser's back arrow to resume].
JE thanked on our behalf, everybody who helped, with special mention to...
- EPIP¬ for funding the project, and Tegwen and Tim for supporting the unveiling event by attending and filming it.
- Mel and Joan Jones for their research, designing the board, and for the kind words Mel said about Ecclesfield at the unveiling.
- PB for organising the board, leaflet, and unveiling event, and for erecting the board.
- John Fairest Funeral Home for proving the buffet [A letter thanking them for the excellent spread that they had provided for
people attending the unveiling event has now been sent].
After the unveiling, Tegwen from EPIP suggested that after the success
of this board, they would like to find some money for another board or
something.
[x] All the planning applications
listed in the Agenda were examined. The meeting thought that the
proposed car wash at Jinnah's would cause a traffic hazard, and that we
should object on that basis [Done - JP].
[z] Changing the meeting date
to a Tuesday to avoid clashes with other events and meetings proved
difficult, so JP was asked to enquire at the Black Bull to see if
another day would be possible.
